WebJune, 1707, Seafield received a new warrant for a commission as Lord High Chancellor of Scotland, and on 13th May, 1708, he received a warrant for a commission as Lord Chief Baron of the Court of the Exchequer. He was chosen in 1707 as one of the sixteen Representative Peers of Scotland, and was continuously re-elected until 1727.1 WebAlthough in the convention parliament of 1689 he had spoken for James II., he took the oath of allegiance to William and Mary, and after filling some minor official positions he was made secretary of state in 1696, and lord chancellor in 1702. In 1707 he was made chief baron in the court of exchequer.
